I’m pretty sure that I’m not alone in being a tad intimidated with what to create on the burlap pages in the Dina Wakley Media Journal. It’s such a different substrate to use! When I was brainstorming ideas of how to use ArtFoamies, it just clicked that they would probably stamp wonderfully on that burlap. (And, spoiler alert, they do! I am excited to create with them again on a burlap page!)
In this tutorial I create a pretty simple page, full of texture, and a collection of beautiful moments. Recently in a class with Jeanne Oliver, we made journals and embroidered on the spine. I hadn’t stitched much at all since, well, probably junior high. One thing I love about learning from other artists, is taking those skills and applying them to my style. I pulled out the leftover embroidery floss from class and stitched on top of my ArtFoamie stamps. Then, added more color with scribble sticks, some splatters, and a layered tag. I imagined this to be a small collection of beautiful moments or memories of the lady in the vintage photo who I felt was saying “be you!”
An art journal is such a valuable tool for experimenting. Take some time to experiment in your art journal and capture those beautiful moments and discoveries.
